Blue Cross board member named Doctor of the Year

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma congratulates its board member James P. Riemer, DO as being named 2009 Doctor of the Year by the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association. Riemer received the award at the 109th Annual Convention held in April. This award recognizes osteopathic physicians who are exemplary leaders in the profession, of high moral character and highly respected among their colleagues and peers.

Dr. Riemer attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, where he majored in zoology. He continued his education at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine of A. T. Still University of Health Sciences in Missouri and earned an osteopathic medical degree. After completing an internship at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Dr. Riemer joined the Doctors Medical Center in Pawnee, where he has practiced for 31 years.

In addition to serving as a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma board member, Riemer is currently Director of Clinical Education for Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSU-COM) at the Pawnee Municipal Hospital.

Riemer is a past president of both the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association and the Oklahoma Educational Foundation for Osteopathic Medicine, and was appointed by Gov. Brad Henry to the Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic Examiners, and served on the board of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians Oklahoma Society. Dr. Riemer is a delegate to the Amercian Osteopathic Association House of Delegates. He also has served as director of Home Health & Hospice for Pawnee County, a former member of the County Health Board, and as chief of staff of the Pawnee Municipal Hospital for many years.
