About COPD
COPD is a lung disease comprised of chronic bronchitis or emphysema or, in many cases, both. Cigarette smoking is the number one cause of COPD, although you can also get it from other environmental factors. COPD cannot be cured, but the good news is – it’s treatable. There are many things you can do to help control the disease. Stopping smoking is one thing you can do to help slow disease progression.
COPD Triggers
A trigger is anything that causes COPD symptoms to get worse. Every person’s triggers are different, so it’s important to look closely at situations when your symptoms become worse.
COPD triggers may include:
• Very cold or very humid air • Winds • Strong odors from cooking, cleaning or painting • Smoke • Traffic fumes or exhaust from cars • Certain foods or overeating • Stress or anxiety
