New COPD disease management/wellness program
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) currently affects up to 24 million people in the United States – and it’s on the rise. By 2020, it is estimated that COPD will be the third leading cause of death and the fifth leading cause of disability worldwide.
However, the good news is that new therapies have increased survival rates and improved quality of life. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and BlueLincs HMO have created a disease management/wellness program for those with COPD. The program is free of charge and works with members toward achieving better health. Members who qualify and enroll in the COPD program will receive educational mailings. Some members may qualify to receive a telephone call from a disease management nurse.
Understanding and Managing your Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is a brochure that will explain what COPD is, give you information about COPD medications, help you know what makes your symptoms worse, tell you how exercise and nutrition can help your COPD, remind you about getting flu and pneumonia vaccines, and provide tips on reducing stress and fatigue. Ask your doctor if you have questions about anything you read in this brochure.
To obtain this informational brochure, please contact a nurse care manager toll-free at 1-877-715-7840.
