Blue Cross and Blue Shield focuses on uninsured

(TULSA) Too many – more than 650,000 – Oklahomans lack health insurance, representing one of the biggest challenges facing the state.  Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma is joining a nationwide public education campaign to promote awareness of the uninsured in conjunction with “Cover the Uninsured Week” April 23-29.

Cover the Uninsured Week is the largest campaign in history to focus attention on the issue of the uninsured. Nearly 46 million Americans, including more than 8 million children, have no health coverage, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma is working alongside state and industry officials to promote awareness of the Oklahoma Employer/Employee Partnership for Insurance Coverage (O-EPIC), a premium assistance program that helps Oklahoma small business owners offer health coverage to their employees.

“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma has been involved in the O-EPIC program since its very beginning for one reason,” said Oklahoma Plan President Wyndham Kidd, “O-EPIC holds great potential to reduce the number of uninsured Oklahomans.”

Kidd joins Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland and other leaders at 10:30 a.m. today at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City for a press conference to kick off Cover the Uninsured Week.
