BCBSOK hires new medical director

Dr. Joseph CunninghamA new medical director, Dr. Joseph Cunningham, has joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma's health care management team. 

Cunningham is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. He comes to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma after spending nearly 20 years in private practice and serving as staff physician at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.

A native of Siloam Springs, Ark., Cunningham earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry and attended medical school at the University of Arkansas. He also conducted post-graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma - Tulsa.

Cunningham is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and he is a member of both the Oklahoma State Medical Association and the Tulsa County Medical Society.

Cunningham lives in Tulsa with his wife, Mary. The Cunninghams have two sons, both studying to pursue careers in medicine. Major, 24, is a third-year medical student, and Christopher, 21, is preparing to begin medical school, both at the University of Oklahoma.
