Asthma

The symptoms of asthma

Asthma is a chronic lung disease. And there's no question about it - asthma makes it hard for you to breathe. There is no cure, but you can control it. The main symptoms are:

  • Coughing
  • Wheezing (making a whistling sound when you breathe)
  • Tightness in the chest
  • Shortness of breath

There are many situations that can bring on an asthma attack, including exercise, changes in the weather, strong emotions (such as crying), or a respiratory infection.

"Triggers" may also bring on an asthma attack. Triggers include dust, pollen, smoke or chemicals in the air.

If you have any of these symptoms of asthma, make an appointment with your doctor to discuss your risk of asthma.
