What Is a CDHP?

If you want a plan that offers a different way to take charge of your health care costs, then a CDHP may be the right plan for you and your family.

CDHP stands for Consumer Directed Health Plan. It's a type of health plan that gives you more control of your health care expenses. A CDHP most often pairs a Health Savings Account (HSA), or some other tax-advantaged account. An HSA is a savings account that lets you use pre-tax dollars to pay for a wide range of qualified health care costs, including dental and vision.

You're often given a set amount of money at the beginning of the plan that you can use toward out-of-pocket costs like coinsurance and deductibles. You can also add money throughout the year to your HSA, which you can use to pay these costs. Any unused balance is yours to keep and rolls over from year to year.
