Medicare Eligibility Guidelines

In order to qualify for Medicare you must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident and meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • 65 years of age or older and eligible for benefits under Social Security or the
    Railroad Retirement System
  • Receiving Social Security Disability benefits for at least 24 months
  • Receiving regular dialysis or have received a kidney transplant due to end-stage
    renal disease (ESRD)
  • Diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's
    disease
