Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma introduces the Availity Health Information Network as its new online service Web portal. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma network health care professionals will have access to a wider-range of Web-based products and services.

The Availity Web portal is a Web site that provides a pathway to other Internet resources. The Availity Health Information Network encompasses administrative, financial and clinical services, supports both real-time and batch transactions, and is HIPAA complaint.

Some of the free services available to health care professionals include:
• Real-time and batch transactions, including eligibility and benefits, claim status, claims submission, remittance, authorizations and referrals
• Access to several national and regional health care payers in real-time.
• Access to hundreds of payers for claim transactions, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma.
• Web-based training.

Health care professionals who accessed the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma Web portal for online inquiry services need to register for Availity in order to continue conducting online real-time transactions. To register, go to the Availity Web site, http://www.availity.com/, and click “Register” on the left menu. Before registering, be sure to have the following information ready:

• Organization demographics – Organization’s name, address and federal tax ID number
• Primary Controlling Authority (PCA) – This person has legal authority to sign agreements for the organization and, typically, is an owner or senior partner. Availity will work with this person should any legal or policy questions arise.
• Primary Access Administrator (PAA) – This person is legally responsible for verifying staff identities and roles, assigning Availity access to staff as appropriate to role, and assigning user IDs and passwords. This person is typically an office or department manager or administrator and is appointed by the PCA, although the PCA may take on this role.
