‘Duplicate Patient ID Number’ Error: Next Steps

June 2, 2012

You may have received one or more of the following error messages from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) in response to your electronic eligibility and benefit (ANSI 270) inquiries:

  • “Duplicate Subscriber/Insured ID Number – Please Correct and Resubmit”
  • “Duplicate Subscriber/Insured ID Number – Resubmission Not Allowed”
  • “Duplicate Patient ID Number – Please Correct and Resubmit”
  • “Duplicate Patient ID Number – Resubmission Not Allowed”

These responses are returned when multiple active policies with different group numbers (such as vision or dental) are associated with the same member ID number.

At this time, if you receive any of the above error messages, you will need to call the Customer Service number on the back of the member’s ID card, rather than submitting repeated electronic eligibility and benefit inquiries. Our Interactive Voice Response (IVR) phone system will prompt you for the member’s group number. This will enable us to determine the appropriate Subscriber/Insured or Patient ID number so that your request to check eligibility and benefits can be completed.

BCBSOK is investigating a solution to enable online return of eligibility and benefit information in the above situation. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience in the interim.

If you utilize a billing service or clearinghouse to submit electronic transactions on your behalf, please check with them to be sure they are aware of the above information.
