Taking on Asthma Site Features Success Story from BCBSOK's Collaboration with the American Lung Association of Oklahoma
As part of BCBSOK's ongoing "Taking on Asthma" campaign to combat childhood asthma, children in the Tulsa, Oklahoma school district took part in the Open Airways for Schools program, geared to third through fifth graders with asthma. The program teaches kids how to recognize symptoms and triggers and how to use their medications correctly. It also focuses on the importance of an asthma action plan and works with the schools to make sure every child with asthma has a plan, and everyone — teachers, nurses and classmates — knows what the plan is.
