Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma Announces Volunteer of the Year
Oklahoma City, OK — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) is proud to announce Catherine Divis has been named employee Volunteer of the Year. A native of Iowa, Divis moved to Oklahoma City in 2012 and joined BCBSOK in 2014 as a communications consultant on the Public Relations team.
Divis’ commitment to encouraging health and physical activities makes her a role model for the company. She served as an employee volunteer coordinator in the 2015 and 2016 OU Medicine Corporate Challenges, rallying over 30 employees to support athletes with disabilities in the community. Divis often participates in 5K charity runs and motivates her coworkers as a “health champion” for the Oklahoma City office. In her short time with BCBSOK, Divis has logged more than 300 volunteer hours.
“I admire how BCBSOK takes pride in helping our communities” said Divis, “Being new to the city, I knew I wanted to get involved and be a part of the solution in making the Oklahoma City community a better place to live.”
Divis focuses her passion for volunteerism on family services, children’s hospitals and food banks. She serves as president of the Sunbeam Beacons, a young professional’s board of Sunbeam Family Services, and as the events chair on the innovative board for the Children’s Hospital Foundation. Her involvement enabled each organization to become a BCBSOK Community Partner making them eligible for employee volunteer matching donations. She is a member of the OKC Blue Corps Steering Committee, which serves as BCBSOK’s internal organization that coordinates and promotes employee volunteer events, fundraisers, material drives and individual engagement in the community. She is also a Blue Corps Ambassador, which is a leadership group of BCBSOK employees who advocate for volunteerism and coordinate events in their local offices. Divis’ enthusiasm and positive attitude make her a joy to be around, and inspire those around her to give back.
“Catherine is a great example of what it means to be an employee volunteer and give back to the community,” said BCBSOK President Ted Haynes. “She takes full advantage of the programs we offer to benefit her community and colleagues.”
Outside of work and her volunteer efforts, Divis enjoys reading, photography and spending time with her husband and their two dogs.
