Special Enrollment for Group Members Losing Coverage
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) has some options available to help group members who may need coverage support due to COVID-19.
Relaxed Eligibility Requirements
We have relaxed the eligibility requirements for currently enrolled/covered group members through Aug. 31, 2020. You can maintain employees who were enrolled as of March 20, 2020, regardless of the eligibility definition stated in their plan or the BPA. This includes reduced work hours, furlough, leave of absence or layoffs.
You do not need to do anything. No paperwork or email is needed, as we will accept current and accurate eligibility files. This flexibility does NOT apply to those who are newly electing coverage via a special enrollment period.
Special Enrollment Period
Losing coverage due to job loss is one of many qualifying events that allows individuals a special enrollment period to purchase new coverage. Deadlines and limitations apply as usual. Learn more about special enrollment period qualifying events.
If you have members who will be losing coverage under your group health plan, those members may have several options for alternative coverage.
