Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and DispatchHealth Extends Mobile Urgent Care to Members

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK), the region’s health care leader and DispatchHealth, a leading provider of mobile health care, are working together to offer mobile urgent care services to BCBSOK members in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas. This innovative mobile service will deliver convenient, high-quality urgent care services in the comfort of a patient’s home, work or location of need. Together, BCBSOK and DispatchHealth are pioneering mobile health care to provide coordinated health care services, while improving access to high-value care. The service is available to BCBSOK members at in-network rates.

“We are excited to have DispatchHealth in the Oklahoma City Metro Area. Our members will now have convenient access to high-quality health care at an affordable price,” Said Joseph Cunningham, M.D., divisional senior vice president of health care delivery and chief medical officer for BCBSOK.

DispatchHealth launched its mobile service in the Oklahoma City metro area in May 2018. Licensed medical professionals respond to calls to treat common-to-complex illnesses, 7 days a week, providing convenience and access to high-quality health care in patients’ locations of need, at an affordable price. DispatchHealth will serve the Oklahoma City area and treat common ailments including:

  • Urinary tract infections
  • Dehydration
  • Minor orthopedic injuries
  • Asthma
  • Constipation
  • Nosebleeds
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Lacerations

The ER-trained medical team will also be able to perform a variety of procedures including:

  • IV fluids and medications
  • Repair of simple wounds with suture or medical adhesive
  • Drain a skin abscess
  • Replace a gastrostomy tube
  • Select laboratory tests
  • Breathing treatments
  • Bladder catheterization
  • Splinting and casting

“DispatchHealth is excited to work with BCBSOK to improve access to care, improve the patient experience and decrease the overall cost of care for the Oklahoma City area,” said Dr. Mark Prather, CEO of DispatchHealth. “Whether caring for an elderly parent, an injured or ill child, or facing an acute illness or injury themselves, consumers have a new option to address on-demand health care needs without the expense, inconvenience and time so often associated with urgent and emergency care facilities.”

This mobile health delivery model enables BCBSOK and DispatchHealth to deliver optimal health care and support. As a result, more people will receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place. DispatchHealth services are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., 7 days a week, including holidays.
