BCBSOK to Host North Tulsa Wellness Events

TULSA, Oklahoma — During the month of June, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) is hosting family wellness events in North Tulsa. On Thursday, June 17, BCBSOK will be at the Hutcherson YMCA from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. BCBSOK is also a proud sponsor of the “Black Health Counts” Juneteenth event on Saturday, June 19, and will be at the OETA building at the OSU Tulsa campus from 12-4 p.m.

BCBSOK’s specialists will be available to provide education on the importance of health insurance and discuss coverage options to see if individuals or families qualify for low to $0 monthly payments. BCBSOK’s African American employee resource group will also be there with family-friendly activities, giveaways and Oasis Fresh Market gift card drawings throughout each event.

According to a 2020 Community Service Council Tulsa Equality Indicators study, there is about an eight and a half year difference in average life expectancy between North and South Tulsa residents, with minorities having a higher cardiovascular disease mortality rate in Tulsa County.

“At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma, we strive to advance health and economic equity by increasing access to quality, affordable health care,” said BCBSOK President Joseph R. Cunningham, M.D. “It’s our commitment to serve as a resource for individuals and families by helping them learn about the products and services we offer that cover preventative care and chronic conditions, helping to improve the health needs of our Black communities.”
