What You Need to Know About Open Enrollment

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma offers a variety of options for those in need of quality, affordable health insurance

TULSA, Okla. — Beginning Nov. 1, the health insurance marketplace opens for Oklahomans to elect medical coverage for 2024.

This open enrollment period allows for individuals and families to enroll, re-enroll or make changes to their health insurance plans. Now is the time to find a plan that suits your needs and budget before the deadline.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) offers the largest network of plans to meet the health care and financial needs of Oklahomans. Our MyBlue HMOSM, which features lower monthly premiums and generally lower out-of-pocket costs, is an example of an affordable plan option.

No Social Security Number? No problem. BCBSOK has a plan that utilizes an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. This option can be beneficial for certain nonresident and resident aliens, their spouses and dependents who cannot get a Social Security Number.

BCBSOK Bilingual Outreach Specialist Emma Krummrich said this plan gives underserved populations the opportunity to have health insurance, providing for peace of mind for them and their families.

“In my country, navigating and knowing about health insurance is something they are not familiar with,” said Krummrich, a native of Ecuador. “Many of them think this will interfere with their immigration. But I always ask them, ‘If you are not healthy, how are you going to pay for your car? How are you going to pay for your house? How are you going to take care for your family?’”

The current open enrollment period ends Jan. 15, 2024. However, Dec. 15, 2023, is the deadline to enroll to ensure coverage by Jan. 1, 2024.

Like holiday shopping, you can go online at healthcare.gov to compare your options. You can get one-on-one assistance — almost like a personal shopper. BCBSOK’s trusted community specialists are available at no cost to you at 1-888-346-9636 or at events they're hosting across the state.
