OKLAHOMA CITY — Over the last 85 days, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma has partnered with organizations in Oklahoma City and Tulsa to complete projects benefitting the communities they serve — termed 85 Days of Caring. The company's volunteerism is inspired by the celebration of its 85th anniversary in 2025.
“On April 1, 1940, we became the first insurer in Oklahoma,” said Stephania Grober, BCBSOK President. “Eighty-five years later, our legacy of reliability, access to care and quality service are still at the heart of what drives our organization. We are proud to serve Oklahomans and will continue to invest in our state’s health.”
Throughout the last 85 days, BCBSOK and its employees have donated and volunteered at organizations that target the economic factors that impact health. The statewide effort focuses on food insecurity, housing insecurity and maternal and infant health.
The final project for BCBSOK’s 85 Days of Caring benefits City Care, an Oklahoma City nonprofit that targets housing insecurity. City Care supports people experiencing or transitioning from homelessness by offering shelter, housing navigation, case management, street outreach and permanent supportive housing.
"We are deeply grateful for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma’s continued investment in our neighbors experiencing homelessness,” said City Care CEO Rachel Freeman. “Through its generous grants and hands-on volunteerism, it helps us provide life-affirming care and restore dignity to individuals in crisis. Its partnership fuels our mission at City Care to create a city where no one is overlooked."
During the 85 Days of Caring, BCBSOK employees amassed more than 3,400 volunteer hours. These special projects are in addition the contined volunteerism, grants and sponsorships that BCBSOK provides annually. With more than $2.8 million invested in grants and sponsorships in 2024, BCBSOK is using the knowledge, experience and talents of community organizations and partners to address social and economic factors that influence community health.
“There is no better way to commemorate our 85th year, than to give back to the communities that we are proud to serve every day,” Grober said.
