Nominate a Champion of Health online through July 15

We are looking for health champions – do you know one? Nominations are open for the eighth annual Champions of Health awards, BCBSOK’s premier community event benefiting the Oklahoma Caring Foundation.

The Champions of Health awards celebrate individuals and organizations working to improve Oklahoma’s health. These winners are recognized so that their efforts can be replicated and “move the needle” to improve the health of the state.

Nominations are accepted in five categories:

  • Uninsured,
  • Children,
  • Community,
  • Senior and
  • Corporate Health
    • Small business (up to 99 employees)
    • Large business (100 or more employees)

Read more about the award categories online . All Champions of Health winners will be presented an award. Nonprofit winners in select categories will receive a $5,000 contribution to their organization or program, and will be considered for the highest honor, the Dr. Rodney Huey Memorial Champion of Oklahoma Health Award. This recipient will receive $15,000.

Nominations can be submitted online at  through July 15.

Winners will be recognized at the Champions of Health Gala on Oct. 25, 2011 in Tulsa, featuring former First Lady Laura W. Bush as the keynote speaker. Sponsorships of the gala benefit the Oklahoma Caring Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing children with access to preventive health services. Through its flagship program, the Oklahoma Caring Van Program, the Foundation provides basic childhood immunizations, free of charge, to Oklahoma children from birth to age 18.  Learn more about sponsorships online .

Champions of Health is presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma in partnership with the Oklahoma State Department of Health, the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the Oklahoma Hospital Association, the Oklahoma State Medical Association, and the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association.
