Obtaining Preauthorization for Out-of-area Members Affected by Hurricane Sandy
While normal procedures are often disrupted when natural disaster strikes, Blue Cross and Blue Shield is always prepared to respond quickly, reasonably and responsibly to help ensure that there are no disruptions in service to your patients.
If you are treating an out-of-area Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) member from an area affected by Hurricane Sandy, you may experience difficulties when calling the number on the back of the member's ID card to obtain benefit preauthorization.
We understand that caring for your patient can’t wait. If you have tried to obtain preauthorization without success, we encourage you to proceed with treatment, as well as normal claim submission.
