Blue Cross Medicare Advantage (HMO)℠ Members Transitioning to HealthSpring℠ Plan for 2027
Oct. 1, 2026
During this year’s Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, we’re transitioning our current Medicare Advantage HMO members to a plan offered by insurer HealthSpring for 2027. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and HealthSpring are affiliated entities within the same parent company.
What members know: Members are being informed of this change. During the Annual Enrollment Period, members may choose HealthSpring or another insurer for 2027. Members who do not make another enrollment election may be automatically enrolled in a HealthSpring HMO plan, consistent with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requirements and applicable enrollment rules. After the Annual Enrollment Period, members will receive new HealthSpring ID cards. They should present their new ID card at their 2027 appointments.
HMO members must seek in-network care for their benefits to apply, except in cases of emergency.
What this means for you
Through Dec. 31, 2026, members should continue to use their BCBSOK ID card and see providers contracted with BCBSOK for their benefits to apply. You may continue to follow BCBSOK processes for providing and billing for these members’ care.
As of Jan. 1, members should use their new HealthSpring ID cards and see providers contracted with HealthSpring for their benefits to apply. If you’re contracted with the HealthSpring Medicare Advantage HMO network, you may provide services to these members according to your contract with HealthSpring. Follow HealthSpring processes for providing care to these members, including utilization management review requirements.
If you aren’t contracted with HealthSpring, services may not be covered except as required under the member’s plan and applicable law, including emergency services. Please direct these members to their provider directory or the number on their member ID card to find in-network care.
To identify these members, review the insurer name and other information listed on their ID card. As with all our members, it’s important to ask to see the member’s ID card before all appointments and to check eligibility and benefits through Availity® Essentials or your preferred vendor.
Update your patient information records: All Medicare Advantage members receive new ID cards Jan. 1. Newly enrolled members also have new ID numbers. If you’re contracted with HealthSpring and see these members, please update your records with their new HealthSpring ID cards and numbers. Use the entire member ID number, including the alpha prefix, to verify benefits and ensure claims are processed. Follow billing instructions on the member ID card.
Why the change: BCBSOK is not offering individual Medicare Advantage HMO, PPO and prescription drug plans in 2027. We’ll continue to offer individual Medicare Supplement and employer-sponsored Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans, in addition to our commercial plans.
Learn more about HealthSpring: The HealthSpring provider website has information on serving HealthSpring members, joining HealthSpring networks and more.
If you have questions, call your Provider Relations Representative or the number on the member’s ID card.
