Extra Financial Help

People with limited incomes may qualify for help to pay for their prescription drug costs. If you qualify, Medicare could pay for 75% or more of your drug costs. This can include monthly prescription drug premiums, annual deductibles and coinsurance. If you qualify, you won’t have a coverage gap or a late enrollment penalty.

To learn if you qualify for extra help, contact:

Social Security Administration 1-800-772-1213

Hearing or speech impaired 1-800-325-0778

7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday – Friday

You can also apply for extra help online.

Low Income Subsidy

If you qualify for Extra Help, you’ll get a Low Income Subsidy (LIS) rider telling you how much help you’ll get towards your drug plan premium, deductible, and copayments.

You receive the same coverage as someone on your plan who is not getting Extra Help. Your membership is not affected. You must also continue to pay your Medicare Part B premium and follow all the rules and procedures in the Evidence of Coverage.

Download the Low Income Premium Subsidy on our Forms & Documents page.

Do You Have LIS and Think You May Be Paying Too Much?

If you receive Extra Help but think you’ve been paying too much for your prescriptions, we can help. The Best Available Evidence (BAE) Policy helps determine the right cost-sharing level for you based on your income.

Learn more in your Evidence of Coverage or find a BAE worksheet on the CMS website.
